CENTENNIAL, COLO., 8 August 2002 – CompassCom Inc., the provider of
vehicle tracking technology to the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, has won
the contract to provide an Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) and Asset Tracking
System to the City of Fremont, Calif. Fremont will use the CompassCom AVL
system to track its fleet of Public Works vehicles.
The CompassCom AVL system will enable Fremont to monitor the real-time location of Public Works vehicles on a computerized map display. This capability enhances the safety of drivers and allows public works departments to dispatch vehicles more efficiently and effectively. In selecting the CompassCom AVL system, Fremont looked for proven technology from a provider with experience in the public works and public safety fields.
“CompassCom’s experience with large systems coupled with its successful implementation of the AVL system for the 2002 Winter Games were determining factors for us when choosing a city-wide AVL provider,” said Tony Vargas, City of Fremont Fleet Superintendent.
The CompassCom AVL solution purchased by Fremont includes two components – CompassTrac™ and CompassFDE™. CompassTrac is the asset tracking component of the CompassCom system, which displays the location and status of the vehicles, in real time, on a digital map. CompassFDE is universal AVL server software that simultaneously receives vehicle location and status data for multiple fleets over a wireless communication network. CompassFDE gives Fremont the option to expand its AVL capability to include multiple fleets.
“The CompassCom
AVL solution will provide the city of Fremont with the most efficient and
effective system on the market,” said CompassCom President, W. Brant Howard.
“Fremont chose CompassCom for our experience, technology and track
record.”
Serving as prime
contractor for implementation, CompassCom has partnered with Intuicom Inc. of
Boulder, Colo., to provide a fully integrated, high-speed wireless network to
support the AVL system. This broadband wireless communications networl will
enable real-time transmission of vehicle location, status and other data among
Fremont dispatchers, vehicle operators and system planners.
